Abstract In order to comprehensively and deeply understand the historical and cultural value of the national cultural symbols of dragon patterns from multiple perspectives, based on Pierce's ternary symbol theory, the prototype and shape evolution of the national shared cultural symboldragon patterns were explored by using the research method of mutual verification between literature analysis and artifact. The composition form and color application of dragon patterns in fabrics were systematically summarized, and their historical development trajectory and cultural context were traced. The results show that the object item resembling a dragon pattern reveals the morphological correlation between its prototype and the oracle bone script character "long" (dragon). The reproduction item indicates that the evolution of dragon pattern shapes is deeply influenced by the social and cultural backgrounds of various historical periods, with a rhythmic form that emphasizes the expression of the pattern's meaning. In terms of color application, it complements the colors of the Five Elements. The interpretation item explains the symbolic significance of the dragon pattern as a symbol of noble imperial power and good luck among the people, jointly reflecting the divine image of the dragon in people's minds.
