Abstract Sericin protein,a vital natural macromolecular component of silk, has demonstrated substantial potential in biomedical materials owing to its exceptional biocompatibility,cel-adhesive properties, tunable degradation kinetics,and abundant active functional groups enabling facile modification. This review systematically delineates the core characteristics of sericin as a biomaterial and critically analyzes the advantages,limitations,and technical bottlenecks of primary extraction methodologies. Emphasis is placed on the development and applications of diversified sericinbased material formats,including hydrogels,films, nerve conduits,scaffolds,microneedles,microspheres,and flexible wearable electronics in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Future research directions encompass: developing mild and efficient extraction techniques,elucidating structure-function relationships of bioactive sericin peptides,enhancing mechanical properties through nanocomposite strategies, advancing exploration of smart-responsive materials,3Dprinted bioinks,and implantable electronics,and facilitating the transition of sericin from a textile byproduct to a high-value-added biomaterial.
