Research on the impact of digital economy and high-quality economic development on the urban-rural income gap in China

Abstract：This study examines the impact of the digital economyand high-quality economic developmenton the urban-rural income gap，employing ordinary least squares （OLS），two-stage least squares （2SLS），and the mediation effectmodel foranalysis.Theresults indicate thatan increase in the high-quality economic development index significantlyraises the ratio of per capitaannual incomeof rural residents to thatof urban resideuts，and narrow the gap between per capita annual income of urban residents and thatofrural residents，and reduces the Theil index，confirming that high-quality economic development contributes to narowing the urbanrural income gap.The impact of the digital economy on the urban-rural income gap exhibits a non-linear. Moreover，the digital economy notonlyexertsadirect influence on theurban-rural income gap butalso generates mediating efect through high-quality economic development. These findings provide a reference for narrowing the urban-rural income gap and achieving urban-rural income balance.
