Abstract: The construction of new liberal arts promotes the paradigm innovation of liberal arts education in universities, and foreign language education is gradually shifting towards the core of cultural understanding and cross-cultural communication. This paper focuses on the theme of artificial intelligence (AI) empowering the cultivation of cross-cultural communication competence for Japanese language talents in universities. It defines the core connotations of new liberal arts, AI empowerment, and Japanese language talents' cross-cultural communication competence, analyzes the value and practical dilemmas of this cultivation model, and proposes specific implementation paths from dimensions such as curriculum system reconstruction, practice platform construction, and faculty quality enhancement. The research aims to provide theoretical reference and practical guidance for the cultivation of compound talents in Japanese language majors from the perspective of new liberal arts, and help Japanese language education better adapt to the needs of social development and industry talent demands.
