Abstract: This paper focuses on the applied transformation of the Chinese Language and Literature major in private universities, concentrating on the theoretical and practical value of talent cultivation reform. It defines the core characteristics of professionals in this field from three aspects: cultural literacy, professional competence, and comprehensive quality. Through systematic analysis, the paper identifies four prominent problems in the current talent cultivation of this major: ambiguous cultivation positioning, an imbalanced curriculum system, lagging faculty development, and a shortage of teaching resources. These dilemmas lead to a disconnect between professional training and the applied orientation of private universities, as well as the talent demands of society. Aligning with the educational positioning of private universities—"serving the grassroots, contributing to local development, and emphasizing application"—this paper constructs a systematic and implementable optimization path for talent cultivation from four core dimensions: cultivation objectives, curriculum system, faculty team, and teaching resources. It aims to promote the deep integration of cultural and literary literacy with practical application abilities, enhance the quality of professional education, and provide a practical reference for the high-quality development of the Chinese Language and Literature major in private universities and the cultivation of applied liberal arts talents.
